German chemical giant Evonik is stepping up its investments in Singapore, with a new high-tech plant that produces substances used in biodiesel and plastic recycling. The facility also supports Singapore's push to focus on higher-value specialty chemicals on Jurong Island. The plant is designed to run with net-zero carbon emissions from its operations. Specialty chemicals like alkoxides now account for around one-fifth of Singapore's energy and chemicals sector, with value-added doubling to S$5 billion over the last decade. Nadirah Zaidi reports.
