Singapore's bankruptcy regime aims to help bankrupts make a fresh start in their financial matters, while protecting the rights of creditors, said Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong. He gave this assurance in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 24) in reply to an MP's question. Mr Tong said the Law Ministry's Insolvency Office does not provide direct counselling and psychological support or legal advice to bankrupts. But it points them to the support options available. It has user-friendly information on the bankruptcy process, as well as a list of social service agencies and legal clinics.
