More should be done for lower-income singles who are in need of rental housing due to various circumstances, many of whom are seniors. When they are unable to find a flatmate under the Joint Singles Scheme, they end up being housed with a stranger. MP Louis Ng suggested in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4) that the Government consider publishing a set of specific criteria under which a person can rent a flat alone. He also hoped that the keeping of cats in Housing and Development Board flats would be allowed, with specific conditions that would address any issues of disamenities.
