Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Gan Thiam Poh on safety assurance for cultured meat

Singapore became the first in the world to approve the sale of cultured meat when it granted regulatory approval for Eat Just's lab-grown chicken meat, MP Gan Thiam Poh highlighted in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4). As a pioneer, there are no data or statistics from other countries for Singapore to tap on in this area. As such, Mr Gan asked how authorities will ensure that new food production technologies are kept safe for consumers.
