Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 4: Shahira Abdullah on sensitive classroom discussions

Students are generally comfortable discussing sensitive topics like race, religion and sexuality in class, but some teachers are not. Teachers may be worried about breaching norms or even breaking laws, or being censured by superiors or peers. NMP Shahira Abdullah made these points in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 3), citing her own findings as well as media reports. She asked if there are plans to train all teachers in such specialised skills and if so, when. She also said periodic reviews and surveys should be done after teachers put such training into practice.
