A feature of the COVID-19 economic health shock is that it is uneven across sectors. While some are badly hit, others are doing well, noted NMP Hoon Hian Teck in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 2). He raised the issue of help that might be offered to facilitate a re-allocation of workers out of contact-intensive sectors which are suffering into other sectors. More broadly, he added, it is about how to prepare workers to minimise the scarring effects of a prolonged slump.
