Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on strengthening ASEAN

Fault lines among ASEAN member states could unravel the progress the grouping has made, said MP Sylvia Lim in Parliament on Monday (Mar 1). She pointed to issues such as territorial disputes in the South China Sea and divergent support for the US versus China. Ms Lim asked how Singapore will seek to strengthen ASEAN centrality and coordination, including by working through the ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Political-Security Community. She also asked about the potential of non-governmental organisations and ordinary people to strengthen ASEAN.
