Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 2: Hazel Poa on hiking compensation for families of fallen servicemen in peacetime

The best way to secure commitment to national defence is to ensure that families of fallen servicemen are taken care of, said NCMP Hazel Poa in Parliament on Monday (Mar 1). She urged the Government to benchmark compensation in peacetime "according to a reasonable projection of lifetime income based on actual civilian wages of NSmen multiplied by their remaining work life, and S$1 million for NSF". She also proposed a special day be designated to commemorate those who have paid the ultimate price for national defence and to honour their families.
