Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 1: Jamus Lim on forming an independent fiscal council

04:15 Min
In Parliament on Friday (Feb 26), MP Jamus Lim proposed the formation of an independent fiscal council called the Parliamentary Budget Office of Singapore - to be seeded with an initial S$20 million and given the mandate to score all major policy proposals put forward by MPs for budgetary and macro implications. He said this could be especially useful at a time when Singapore is running the largest Budget deficit since Independence, with substantial uncertainty over its future economic evolution.
