The Marriage and Parenthood Package has not arrested Singapore's declining total fertility rate, which is now at a historical low. MP Cheng Li Hui said in Parliament on Friday (Feb 26) that this was likely due to changing social norms and values, as many continue to prioritise their careers and lifestyles over marriage and parenthood. The situation has been exacerbated by COVID-19. She asked if the Government plans to review its strategies to encourage more Singaporeans to marry and have children.
