Budget 2021 debate: Lim Wee Kiak on getting buy-in for electric vehicles

12:12 Min
During the debate on Budget 2021 in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 24), MP Lim Wee Kiak spoke about the challenges of creating supporting infrastructure for electric vehicle (EV) usage and asked why, when this is not yet in place, motorists are being “penalised” with a petrol duty hike and “coerced” to move to EVs. Dr Lim suggested that the Government take the lead to convert all public vehicles to EVs and offer incentives to convert commercial vehicles to EVs. He also asked whether the 10-year Certificate of Entitlement lifespan can be reviewed for EVs since they are less polluting.
