Budget 2021 debate: Denise Phua on role of Community Development Councils

Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh's suggestion for Citizens' Consultative Committees or grassroots volunteers to run the Community Development Councils' multi-million-dollar help scheme during the COVID-19 pandemic was "ignorant of or insensitive to the reality on the ground", said MP Denise Phua in Parliament on Thursday (Feb 25). The mayor of Central Singapore District pointed out that grassroots groups and CCCs were not set up to run schemes of this magnitude and elaborated on the work done by CDCs, acting as the middleman linking up beneficiaries and contributing partners.
