Adjournment motion: Murali Pillai on reviewing ouster clauses

Ouster clauses should be regularly reviewed to ensure they are still relevant. This will keep the Government accountable and bolster the legitimacy of Singapore’s laws. This call was made in an adjournment motion brought by MP Murali Pillai in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4). In response, Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong said ouster clauses are carefully calibrated, already reviewed regularly and have been repealed where necessary. He said the Government must be free to take swift and effective action in the public interest on critical policy issues, rather than face potential gridlock.
