Here’s everything you wanted to know about Sheila Sim’s glowy bridal look

Celebrity makeup artist Clarence Lee shares every single makeup product he used on the gorgeous bride.

Local actress Sheila Sim has tied the knot with her Mr Right, Deon Woo, and let’s just say that we gotten some major #weddinginspo from her wedding photos. It's not just her exceptional three-piece Chanel ensemble that we envy but her supernaturally glowy skin too.

Her secret? Her dream team that helped her get ready for the joyous occasion and genuine happiness that shone through from within.

“I was actually very tired on the wedding day itself,” revealed Sheila. “I was filming until two days before and I survived on only two to three hours of sleep as I had to do the hair-combing ceremony at 1am and had to be up again at 5am. I think the glow I was exuding was really from the happiness and that is my best tip!”

“I also don’t believe in lin shi bao fo jiao (completing a task at the very last minute). It’s all about the maintenance and I take quite good care of myself on a day-to-day basis.”

If you follow Sheila on social media, you would have noticed many shots of her with celebrity makeup artist Clarence Lee and hairstylist and owner of Duo Hair Salon Dexter Ng.

“I’ve worked with Clarence and Dexter for so many years and every shoot is basically done with them. I’ve never given them instructions on what look to create so it was natural doing the same for the wedding. I usually just tell them what I’ll be wearing and leave the rest to them. I trust them,” said Sheila.

On the big day, Sheila’s hair was pulled into a low ponytail. “I wanted something simple and didn’t want to change my hair after the lunch for the after-party,” revealed the bride.

“I didn’t actually plan to do anything with my hair for the wedding but I met Dexter a week before and he asked me to come for a cut. I ended up trimming my hair and getting a black dye-job.”

And because we needed to know how we could get Sheila’s supernaturally glowy skin, we reached out to makeup maestro Clarence, whose celebrity clients include Zhang Ziyi, Zoe Tay and Stefanie Sun, for tips on recreating her gorgeous bridal look.

Here, Clarence gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her makeup and shares tricks:

Confidence is key

“Sheila is such a confident girl. She did not once tell me what look she wanted – even for her pre-wedding pictures, wedding video and for the big day itself,” reveals Clarence.

A timeless look is always in

“I am always for a timeless look when it comes to brides. So I gave Sheila a soft, subtly dewy look and used neither eyeliner nor false lashes,” shares Clarence.

Prep work is important

Clarence started by prepping Sheila’s skin with the hydrating Refa Plosion facial mist, followed by a light massage.

“Skin has to be well moisturised to begin with. Skin that is thirsty for moisture will only produce more sebum to compensate for the dryness. This will affect the staying power of makeup.”

Next, the makeup, which was a result of fine-tuned layering process.

Skin
“I wanted the whole look to be soft and glowy (read: no harsh contour lines) so I used the AQMW Conditioning Base and Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation in three different shades to bring highlights and lowlights to the face instead of actual contouring. I also used the YSL Touche Eclat Le Cushion to highlight parts of the face subtly.”

When it comes to layering products, “less is more,” stresses Clarence. “If you are going to use layers of products, always use a light hand.”

Cheeks
“I used a blend of Zoeva The Basic MomentJardin de Chanel Blush in Camélia RoséLaura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in #02 and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed In Champagne Pop.”

Eyes
“No eyeliner was used. For the lashes, I applied the Kate Tokyo Lash Maximizer Lash Primer and Clinique Lash Power Volumizing Mascara in Black. On the lids, I used a mix of eyeshadows — ZA Killer Big Eyes in RD47 and some Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed In Champagne Pop.”

Lips
“To stain the lips, I used the Dior Lip Tattoo in #351, topped with a little Fresh Sugar Cream Lip Treatment in Gilt.”

On getting makeup to last

Besides prepping the skin well, “fixing sprays, such as the Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray, help too,” shares Clarence. “They help bond the layers of primer, foundation and face powder for a longer-lasting effect.”

So now you’ve got the expert tips and tricks for your next big party or for your big day, and you’ll be ready to boogie the entire night away.
