#trending: Expat shares what living in Sentosa is like; netizens make amusing comparisons to HDB estates

SINGAPORE — A TikTok video uploaded by an expat who shared what it is like to live in Sentosa Cove has led to netizens making amusing comparisons between the residential enclave and the heartland estates that they live in.

The one-minute clip uploaded on June 28 by TikTok user "the_sleep_goddess" has garnered at least 386,200 views and 1,059 comments as of Tuesday (July 4).

The TikTok video, with the caption "A few reasons why we love living in Sentosa", shows the woman from South Africa cycling around the island with her two children and dog.

The social worker shares how she loves living in Sentosa because of its pedestrianised roads, the friendly bus drivers, the wide array of restaurant options and the safety it provides for residents.

The video elicited humorous responses from netizens in Singapore who, in turn, poked fun at the heartland estates they live in and their available facilities.

One user wrote: “I live in Yew Tee. We have Yew Tee Point and Yew Tee MRT. The bus drivers are not as friendly. They see you running but (they) drive off anyway.”

“I live in Choa Chu Kang. We got Lot One and some graveyards,” another commented.

“I live in Bukit Batok. I have West Mall and Bukit Batok market,” said another user. To this, the TikTok user responded: “Sounds festive there.”

Other netizens noted how they were unaware that residents could live in Sentosa and what it was like.

One user said: “As a Singaporean, thank you for showing us what living in Sentosa (is) like”, a comment which has attracted 7,276 likes.

“I didn’t know it was an entire estate. Thank you for sharing because I literally won’t be able to afford living there. Not in this lifetime,” another user remarked.

“People live in Sentosa? My wallet says I can’t,” a user wrote.
