SINGAPORE — Two people were taken to hospital after a nine-vehicle chain collision in the Kallang–Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel on Thursday (Oct 27) afternoon.

In a statement on Friday, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that on Thursday around 4.45pm, it was alerted to a road traffic accident along KPE towards Tampines Expressway (TPE) after the Bartley Road East exit.

Videos and images circulating on social media showed eight cars and a van lined up one after another in a chain collision in the centre lane of the KPE tunnel.

Most the vehicles appeared to have significant damage to their front and rear, with a tow truck seen towing away a Toyota that was smashed in front.

In one video, police and SCDF officers can be seen at the scene.

A 14-year-old female passenger and a 40-year-old female car driver were conscious when driven to the hospital, the police said in a statement on Friday.

“A 54-year-old male car driver, 38-year-old female car driver and 43-year-old van driver are assisting with police investigations,” they added.
